Martin Yaffe

Co-Program Leader, Smarter Imaging Program

Research Description

Early diagnosis and detection of a tumour before it grows and spreads is critical in surviving cancer. In addition, it is important to obtain information that profiles the tumour to guide decisions regarding the most effective approach to treatment. Some of this prognostic information can be extracted directly from medical images.

OICR’s Smarter Imaging Program, co-led by Dr. Martin Yaffe and Dr. Aaron Fenster, aims to detect tumours as early as possible and to provide useful prognostic information, using advanced imaging and screening techniques that they develop. Through its partners, the Imaging Translation Platform and the OICR Commercialization Program, they move new cancer imaging tools from the laboratory to the clinic where patients can benefit from new research.
