Scientific Advisor and Group Leader, Analytical Chemistry and ADME, OICR Drug Discovery Program

Dr. Ahmed Aman is the Scientific Advisor and Group Leader of Analytical Chemistry and ADME at the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR), with a cross-appointment as Assistant Professor at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto.

Aman completed his PhD in Chemistry at Queen’s University, Canada, and has over 25 years of experience in analytical chemistry, pharmacokinetics (PK), and ADME (absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion).

Since joining OICR in 2009, Aman has led a multidisciplinary team focused on preclinical drug metabolism, biodistribution, and biomarker discovery in oncology. His research integrates advanced LC-MS/MS and lipidomics approaches to identify and quantify molecular biomarkers that inform drug exposure, mechanism of action, and disease progression. These efforts directly support translational drug discovery programs through pharmacokinetic modeling, dose escalation, maximum tolerated dose (MTD) determination, and toxicity assessment.

Aman has authored 60+ peer-reviewed publications in leading scientific journals and has made significant contributions to several oncology drug development programs. He is an active member of the American Chemical Society (ACS), American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS), and the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR). In addition to his research leadership, he teaches graduate-level courses in drug discovery and mentors students pursuing careers in pharmacokinetics and drug metabolism.

His expertise spans bioanalytical assay development, LC-MS/MS-based lipidomic biomarker discovery, and preclinical PK strategy, with ongoing collaborations across academia and industry. Aman also serves as Chair of OICR’s Biosafety Committee and provides scientific consulting for preclinical drug development initiatives.
