What we do
Clinical Translation works to bring scientific innovations in detecting, diagnosing and treating cancer to the patients who need them by bridging the gap between science and patient care.
Why we do it
New knowledge doesn’t always result in new healthcare practices. There are many challenges that delay or prevent even the most exciting scientific research from being adopted into cancer care. By addressing these challenges and bridging these gaps, Clinical Translation helps patients benefit from research innovations sooner.
How we do it
We work with patients, clinicians, healthcare leaders and partners in government and industry to create a pathway for new cancer discoveries. We support clinical trials and other innovative studies that test new ways to detect and treat cancer earlier, when patients have the best chance at surviving and living well, and seek to implement new discoveries into Ontario’s healthcare system. We are especially focused on hard-to-treat cancers, where new approaches are the most needed.
Clinical Translation Pathway (CTP)
CTP supports practice-changing pre-clinical and clinical research in biomarkers, diagnostics and therapeutics that advance early detection and intervention research and have a clear path to clinical impact.Learn more about CTP
Window of Opportunity (WOO) Trials
Window of Opportunity (WOO) Trials support pre-surgical trials focused on biomarker analysis of how new therapies or combinations of therapies affect tumour cells and immune cells in newly diagnosed, treatment naïve patients. Learn more about WOO Trials
Implementation Science
Implementation Science enables OICR to bridge the gaps between research and its use in real world settings, especially clinical medicine, by establishing pathways to assess new tools and technologies.Learn more about Implementation Science
Ontario Health Study (OHS)
A landmark study with over 224,900 participants that is helping researchers better understand the environmental, lifestyle, and genetic factors that cause cancer and other chronic diseases.Learn more about OHS
Canadian Cancer Clinical Trials Network (3CTN)
A pan-Canadian initiative to improve the efficiency and quality of clinical trials in Canada. Learn more about 3CTN
Ontario Cancer Research Ethics Board (OCREB)
Ontario Cancer Research Ethics Board is an expert central oncology REB serving almost every hospital in Ontario that conducts cancer clinical trials. Learn more about OCREB
